A well-known motel in Visalia now has a new lease on life as The Majestic Gardens held it's grand opening yesterday.
Most recently known as The Majestic Motel, community members from across the southern Central Valley gathered in Visalia to celebrate the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for The Majestic Gardens.
"This is a milestone, it's a wonderful day for all of those who have an opportunity to place this Majestic Gardenst their home," shared Congressman Jim Costa. "It's a milestone because it's a demonstration of the City of Visalia's committment, and all of the other partners that are part of this, compassion to do the right thing."
Congressman Costa was joined by Councilmember Emmanuel Hernandez Soto, who spoke on behalf of the Visalia City Council, noting the project was made possible by $16.05 million dollars through the City's work with the State of California Homekey project and other funding sources.
"It took a lot of time, investment and money to get here today, but the impact of what we've come together to accomplish at The Majestic goes far beyond the physical structure we're looking at today," added Hernandez Soto. "It extends to the realm of physical and mental health, offering hope, stability, and a sense of belonging to individuals and families who have experienced housing insecurity."
The Majestic Gardens is now fully open as Permanent Affordable Rental Housing for people experiencing homelessness, and was made possible in part by the State of California's Homekey project.
As a conversion of a nonresidential structure to residential dwelling units, the City of Visalia used Homekey funds to work partners RH Community Builders and Upholdings to create a 41-unit supportive housing complex.
The Majestic Gardens, located on Noble Ave. just off Highway 198, includes enhanced on-site case management, security, and a wrought iron gate with individual unit pins to regulate traffic into the property. Additionally, a drop in center for individuals experiencing homelessness is on site, and The Majestic has office space for staff working with community members.
