VPD Holding Checkpoint on 4/18

4.16.2025

The Visalia Police Department will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on Friday, April 18, 2025.

"Locations for these checkpoints are carefully selected based on areas with a higher frequency of impaired driving-related incidents," provides Liz Jones, Public Safety Police & Fire Public Information Officer. "The primary goal is to improve public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road."

The department also reminds drivers that impairment can come from more than just alcohol. Certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can affect your ability to drive. Additionally, while medical and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.

A first-time DUI offense can result in fines and penalties averaging $13,500, as well as a suspended driver’s license.

This checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
