Traffic Switch Coming to Riggin Avenue

4.4.25
Heads up travelers, a temporary traffic switch will be coming to Riggin Avenue starting Thursday, April 10.
Part of the work of the Riggin Widening Project, crews are currently working on phase 1 of construction along the northside of Riggin Ave, paving will occur the week of April 7.
The roadway will be ready to receive traffic starting Thursday, April 10. West and easbound traffic will shift to the northside of the roadway so construction can begin on the southside of Riggin Avenue.
The intersection at Riggin Avenue at Giddings Street will remain open to through traffic the majority of the time. Local streets Conyer Street (northbound), Turner Street, Rinaldi Street, Divisadero Street, and Dayton Street will be closed and will not have access to Riggin Avenue. Conyer Street southbound will be open for right turns only.
“The Riggin Widening Project will ultimately increase vehicle capacity on Riggin Avenue between Mooney Boulevard and Conyer Street by adding additional east/west lanes to support this growing area of our city,” Diego Corvera, City of Visalia Senior Civil Engineer, and Project Manager.
Work is being performed by contractor Cen-Cal Construction and overseen by City of Visalia Building and Engineering Department staff.
“Any traffic lane shifts will be posted on the roadway with crews directing traffic as necessary,” added Corvera. “Detour routes will be posted to properly advise the public as needed and we ask that travelers be extra aware when traversing the construction areas and slow for the cone zone.”
The improvements will widen the existing street to a four-lane divided roadway, providing bike lanes, a local frontage road, sidewalks, drainage improvements, new center medians, streetlights, and street landscaping. Construction will continue weekly until completion, which is anticipated in July 2025.
Road updates will be available via the City of Visalia website at
