Chinowth Roadwork to Improve Traffic Flow
11.19.2024
Changes are coming to Chinowth Street, north of Tulare Avenue and adjacent to Veva Blunt Elementary School, as crews will soon begin work to change the roadway’s traffic pattern.
“This roadwork is intended to help alleviate traffic congestion on Chinowth and for Veva Blunt Elementary School during school drop-off and pick-up times,” shared Erik Kerher, Chief Operations Officer, Visalia Unified School District “The change in traffic pattern will contribute to improved overall safety for students and their families.”
Starting Monday, November 25, painted red curb and no parking signage will be installed on Chinowth Street between Tulare and Meadow Avenues. Crews will then begin performing the roadway striping revisions on November 25th . This involves removing old markings painted onto the street and applying updated striping.
The new roadway striping will change the traffic pattern in the following ways:
• When approaching Veva Blunt Elementary on Chinowth Street, drivers will only be able to make a southbound right turn to enter the school’s circular driveway and/or parking lot. A northbound left turn into the driveway is no longer allowed.
• If exiting the school, drivers will only be able to make a right turn onto Chinowth Street. Left turns will no longer be allowed.
“The work is scheduled to be complete by November 27. Once finished, those dropping off or picking up their student on Chinowth Street in front of Veva Blunt will need to access the school parking lot and circular drive in the southbound direction only,” added Danny Galindo, Public Works Manager, City of Visalia.
