Applications are now accepted for the position of Parks & Recreation Director, a position that is part of the City's executive team and oversees four operational divisions.
The City of Visalia Parks & Recreation Department is staffed by 50 full-time employees and variable hourly employees across the Parks and Urban Forestry, Recreation, Facilities and Maintenance and Animal Care Services Divisions.
Along with the responsibility as the City's Arts Consortium Liaison, this department head level position is responsible for overall policy development, program planning and fiscal management.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this executive level, at-will position will be someone professional, responsive, innovative, and dedicated to the mission of the City and Parks and Recreation Department, and have a strategic vision for the future.
Qualifications include graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or applicable field, along with eight years of extensive administrative experience in a full-service municipal agency, county government, or similar agency, with at least three years in a management position.
Experience in all aspects of the diverse functions of the department is not expected, but a track record of effective leadership in some of the areas of responsibility of the position is desired, along with strong aptitude for learning new roles and responsibilities, adapting to changing conditions, and leading a management team covering diverse areas of responsibility.
