Council OKs changes in ordinance to allow chickens in residential areas: At Monday's City Council meeting, Council members voted to initiate a zoning text amendment to the City's existing ordinance to allow chickens in residential areas. The amendment will include limiting the number of chickens to four, requiring coops/enclosures, and limiting the killing and dressing of chickens to indoors only. Stage 4 watering restrictions reauthorized through April 17, 2016: The Council also heard the first reading of the updated water conservation ordinance. On March 27, Governor Brown issued an Executive Order which imposes restrictions to achieve a statewide 25% reduction in water usage. Additional restrictions may be needed when the State Water Resources Control Board issues its regulations on May 5 implementing the Governor's 25% mandate. Updates to the City's ordinance include prohibiting watering in December and increasing fines by 25% up to a maximum of $625 a day. To view the staff report, click here

Dump On Us for Free on April 11: The City of Visalia will hold a Dump On Us event from 7 am to noon Saturday, April 11 at the Corporation Yard at 333 N. Cain. The event is free for all Visalia residents to rid property of any garbage, electronic, green and household hazardous waste items. A commercial shredding service will be available.
